Cian Donnelly the order of the ghost 22.02.08 - 20.03.08
Private View Thursday 21st Feburary 6pm-8pm the third space is delighted to present a series of new works by Cian Donnelly completed while on a residency at the British School in Rome. While rooted in painting Donnelly’s recent work has broadened to include song, performance and storytelling, his extensive drawing and notebook writings form the basis of an ongoing narrative, developing fictional characters with a distinctive mythology and hierarchies.
In this exhibition Donnelly exhibits a number of his idiosyncratic sculptural paintings, similar in process to his previous Slice Paintings in addition to works on paper and song.
Donnelly has recently set up a performance group, The Order of The Golden Ghost assisting him in the presentation and performance of his compositions. Donnelly says of his songs, they are “ a way of giving life to other voices and characters, but also suggest a context and tone for the work, like a children’s psychdelic musical.”
Cian Donnelly was born, Dublin, in 1974. His work is held in private and public collections including, The National University of Ireland and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland. He is the current recipient of The Arts Council of Northern Ireland Fellowship at The British School at Rome.
